Paul led the research component of an extensive and in-depth survey of all ministry personnel in the United Church of Canada. He used some standard measures and also developed a customized tool, the Clergy Isolation Inventory. His analysis of nearly 1600 responses identified probable drivers of anxiety, stress, burnout, depression, organizational alienation and turnover cognitions.
